What is an Intervention?
An intervention
is an attempt to interrupt an individual’s negative behaviors.
In many circumstances intervention may be the only way to stop a person
from severely harming his/herself or others. Often family, friends or
coworkers are able to stop a person before an addiction causes dire
consequences. A professional intervention allows an individual to become
aware that his/her drug or alcohol abuse has affected those surrounding
him or her. It shows a concern for change.
An intervention
can begin the healing process for both the individual and his/her family
or workplace environments. After consultation with the right specialist,
the group or family involved is able to plan a time to meet and take
the next step in resolving this very serious issue. It is common to
have feelings of fear and betrayal when considering intervention. If
performed properly the experience can be positive, bringing relief to
everyone involved. It is not usually a good idea to attempt an intervention
without trained assistance. Often this type of confrontation can add
further confusion and chaos to an already difficult situation.
If you feel that
someone you know is facing negative consequences as a result of drug
or alcohol abuse, please contact us. While it can be difficult to vocalize
concern for an addicted individual, addiction is a progressive disease
and will only worsen for your friend or loved one. Usually an addicted
person is unable to understand his or her own addiction and will not
come to an understanding later in life without the help of those around
them. Treatment is effective for individuals who are unwilling at initial
stages. If you are concerned about someone you know please contact us.
We will be happy to answer your questions and give you a preliminary
evaluation of the situation over the phone.
